ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) is a not-for-profit, community-owned water utility, overseen by elected officials and citizen appointees from Reno, Sparks and Washoe County. TMWA has a highly skilled workforce who ensure the around-the-clock treatment, delivery and availability of high-quality drinking water for more than 400,000 residents of the Truckee Meadows.

We are looking to hire two (2) Temporary Service Line Specialist, to join our Water Quality Department.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The primary role of the Service Line Specialist is to identify service line pipe material as required by Environmental Protection Agency to meet Lead and Copper Rule Revision Service Line Inventory conditions. This position necessitates the candidate to be self-motivated and able to work in a self-directed environment while using various techniques and tools to determine the composition of service line including visual inspection, material testing and historical records review.

  • Operate company vehicle the majority of the working day.
  • Must have strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Educate customers on the importance of identifying service line
  • Work with various homeowners, or commercial, representatives to coordinate multiple on-site visits each day
  • Must be able and willing to crouch or squat in small areas such as crawl spaces, and work outdoors in variety of weather conditions
  • Conduct thorough assessments of the customer’s service line documenting identifying factors.
  • Maintain accurate records of customer information, service line material and other relevant data
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure data and mapping are correct.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the minimum requirements is:

Experience:

  • At least one year experience in customers service, both over the phone and in person.
  • At least one year experience in the plumbing, maintenance or construction field highly preferred.


Education & Training: ·

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required
  • Must have working-level knowledge of the English language including reading, writing and speaking.
  • Working knowledge of digital cameras, cell phone and personal computer


CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURE & SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

A valid Nevada (or California – depending on state of residency) Driver License at time of hire and continuing thereafter and ability to maintain insurability under TMWA’s vehicle insurance policy.

Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation during hire and periodically thereafter during employment.

This position is considered a safety sensitive position and employment is contingent upon the results of drug and/or alcohol testing which includes screening for marijuana. The presence of marijuana or other screened for substances on any employment related substance test may result in a refusal to hire or termination of employment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of: Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and Outlook; reading and interpreting maps; working safely in all environments; strong knowledge of household and commercial plumbing.

 

Skill/Ability to: Identify pipe material; safely operate a vehicle; communicate effectively; be mentally and physically alert during work hours; bilingual is a plus.
