Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) is a not-for-profit, community-owned water utility, overseen by elected officials and citizen appointees from Reno, Sparks and Washoe County. TMWA has a highly skilled workforce who ensure the around-the-clock treatment, delivery and availability of high-quality drinking water for more than 400,000 residents of the Truckee Meadows.

We are looking to hire six (6) Seasonal/Temporary Helpers to join our Facilities & Ground Maintenance Team. Seasonal/Temporary employees are not eligible for sick pay, holiday pay, vacation pay, insurance coverage, pension coverage or benefits of a similar nature. 

Job Description:         
Must have sufficient knowledge and adaptability to understand and carry on duties as assigned; must be semi-skilled laborer, or equivalent with past experience as such. Capable of handling ordinary tools safely in accordance with Company safety rules. Assist skilled workman or apprentice or work under their direction at various classes of work, which may be assigned in any location.

This particular vacancy will be filled with incumbents who will be helping in the Facilities and Grounds Maintenance Department. The purpose of this position is to help ensure that all TMWA facilities are adequately maintained by performing manual work such as digging ditches, digging holes, and clearing rights-of way, weed abatement and other repetitive unskilled work as required to achieve the maintenance and repair related to any of TMWA's facilities.

Experience: 
One to two years facilities, building and or grounds maintenance experience preferred.  

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Ability to use basic hand tools
  • Ability to take direction and perform tasks as directed
  • Skilled in using manual tools such as shove, pick hammer, hoe, as necessary to maintain facilities
  • Knowledge of and skilled in using power tools as need to maintain facilities
  • Ability to be punctual regarding work hours established by TMWA
  • Ability to be mentally and physically alert during working hours
Certification/Licensure:
Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to meet TMWA's insurance requirements regarding motor vehicle report criteria.

Physical Conditions:
  • Must be able to lift or move heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand and work as long as 8 hours in different positions.
  • Must be able to work outdoors and endure extreme weather conditions.
