Description

Truckee Meadows Water Authority (TMWA) is a not-for-profit, community-owned water utility, overseen by elected officials and citizen appointees from Reno, Sparks and Washoe County. TMWA has a highly skilled workforce who ensure the around-the-clock treatment, delivery and availability of high-quality drinking water for more than 400,000 residents of the Truckee Meadows.

We are looking to hire an Economist or Data Analyst Graduate/Post-Graduate Intern to join our Finance team this position will not exceed 6 months.

About the Position
The incumbent will work within the Finance Department performing a variety of tasks including:

  1. Building statistical data sets using STATA and R software.
  2. Extracting data from TMWA's databases and preparing the data for statistical analysis.
  3. Converting statistical scripts from STATA to R.
  4. Assist Senior staff with economic analysis and office tasks as needed.


The Student is expected to be able work independently and at a professional level for TMWA.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education

Graduate or Post-Graduate student in the fields of Economics, Statistics, or Data Science.

  • Maintain a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
  • Enrolled in a Masters, recently completed a Masters, or pursuing a Ph.D.

Experience:
The successful Intern will:

  • Be familiar with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Have a working knowledge of STATA, R, or similar statistical software. Suitable courses would be 400/600 level class in econometrics or statistical programming.
  • Have completed at least 9 400/600 level or above credit hours in statistics.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to be taught and to learn complex tasks related to the operation of a public water system.
